    Thallus dark-red to brownish red; attached by fibrous holdfast; thallus branched, consisting of fleshy, terete or slightly compressed branches, 1-5 mm. in diameter, bearing erect lateral branches which are usually basally constricted and sub-acute at their tips; branching irregular from all side, sometimes umbellate with 4-5 branches arising proliferously from a damaged branch. Carpogonial branch usually 3-celled, rarely 4-celled, borne on an inner cortical cell, projecting inwardly at various angles with the trichogyne reflexed outwards. Tetrasporangia zonate, upto 40 µm long and 17 um broad, scattered in the outer cortex.
