Thalli up to 20 cm height, brightly or darkly green in colour, strongly zonate, flexible, strongly calcified, attached to the substratum by means of a bulbous, rhizoidal-mass. Stipe cylindrical, 2-3.5 cm long, 3-5 mm broad, dilated and greatly expanded to broad flabellum; flabellum cordate below, rounded above, often reniform, proliferous and irregularly split segments. The flabellum about 10 cm high, 15 cm broad. The frond into several composed internally of multiseriate filaments, very firmly coherent into a firm cortex. The filaments 23-50 µm broad, densely branched, with numerous irregularly placed lateral appendages.
Ecology
Benthic, deeply buried in sand in depth range from 0-15 meters.
