Cells slightly broader than long, deeply constricted with shallow sinus; semi cells cup-shaped; apical angles with 3-4 emarginated verrucae (slender processes), lateral angles with parallel processes ends with trifid spines; cell wall ornamented with emarginated verrucae at apical angles, base of the semi cells, denticulated processes and a ring of granules at isthmus; chloroplast axile, one per semi cell with a central pyrenoid.
In apical view, Semicells with 2(-3) radiate processes, ellipsoid to fusiform or a triangular shape. Cells measure 33-42 µm in length, 50-90 µm in breadth (with processes), 18-22 µm in breadth (without processes), 7-10 µm broad at isthmus.
Ecology
Thalli collected as planktons and it prefers Oligo-mesotrophic water bodies.
Distribution in India
Kancheepuram (Tamil Nadu), Sundarbans (West Bengal).
