Cells medium in size, compressed, appearing more or less circular in shape, constricted at middle; sinus closed with dilated extremities; apex truncated with a slightly depressed apical notch. Cells measure 45-58 µm long, 40-54 µm broad; Isthmus10-13 µm broad. Semi cells lobed. Cell wall punctate. Chloroplast two per semi cell, axile; each with a pyrenoid.
Ecology
Planktonic alga prefers oligo-mesotrophic water bodies.
Distribution in India
Maharashtra (Patil and Kumawat, 2015); Tuticorin, Sivagangai, Madurai and Thirunelveli Districts, Tamil Nadu (Maheswari and Baluswami, 2017a, 2017c).
