    Cells small, ovate-pyramidate in shape, deeply constricted at isthmus, sinus closed and linear. Cells measured 26-35 µm in length, 18-23 µm in breadth, 3.5-6.5 µm in breadth at isthmus. Apices markedly domed with a deep, narrow median incision. Apical angles rounded with distinct spines on either side of the cell; cell wall distinctly curved with sharp angle on lateral sides of semi cells. Chloroplast axile, single, one per semi cell; each with single pyrenoid.


Ecology

Planktonic acidophilous alga and it prefers mesotrophic water bodies.


Distribution in India

Karnataka (Bharati, and Hegde,1983); Gujarat; Madhya Pradesh; West Bengal; Sikkim; Uttar Pradesh (Gupta, 2012); Kancheepuram, Kanyakumari, Theni and Ramanathapuram Districts Tamil Nadu.
